'Vale' Henry Sims

The Eastern Football League Umpires Association along with the EFNL community is saddened by the news of the sudden passing of Henry Sims.

Henry started with the EFLUA back in 1994 and was awarded Life Membership of the EFLUA in 2008. He was awarded the Geoff Griffiths award for his contribution to goal umpire on and off field in 2003. Henry dedicated most his life to umpiring which resulted in the EFLUA recognizing his 50th year in 2017. Henry never drove to games but instead will catch public transport to his games. If you asked him where he was umpiring he would tell you exactly what tram number, what bus route or what time train he would need to get.

Not only did he love umpiring footy he loved watching his Dees play too. He was so thrilled to see them hold up the cup in 2021. He also had a passion for cricket. It was well known that Henry would go and watch the Victorians play Sheffield Shield cricket and there would be Henry in the stands with his blanket, thermos and a scorebook to score each day of the shield game as a spectator.

Henry will be sadly missed by all at the EFLUA.
The EFLUA passes on their condolences to the family and friends of Henry Sims.
