2021 Don McBain Award - Brodie Renshaw

Congratulations Brodie Renshaw on being awarded the highest EFLUA honour available to a junior umpire. This award recognises Brodie as an umpire with a clear dedication to not only umpiring, but in supporting the umpire’s association through membership and participation. What makes this all the more remarkable is that Brodie has been awarded this honour at just 15 years of age and in his first year of umpiring, a feat I believe may well be unprecedented.

In selecting recipient of this award consideration is given to regular attendance at training and coaching sessions, a willingness to assist in additional activities, attendance at club functions and, of course, on field performances, which saw Brodie promoted out of juniors to U19s before the season ended.

Brodie was too young to umpire when he first registered, then the 2020 season was wiped out, however he made up for lost time in 2021, umpiring over 50 games as a field umpire in junior’s, senior women and U19s, and as a goal umpire in the men’s competition.

With an insatiable appetite for umpiring, Brodie represented the EFNL in the AFL Community Round, umpired in the field and goal in the junior interleague competition and missed training only when spending time with his beloved grandparents in regional Victoria.

The Don McBain Memorial Junior Field Umpire of the Year recognises the contribution made by Don McBain to umpiring, both on-field and his decade long contribution to the Knox JFL and EDFL, which is now the EFNL, as Umpires Advisor.

Congratulations Brodie, the future is yours and there are no limits to what you can achieve.
